Prof. Dr. Thomas Köhler holds the Chair of Educational Technology at the Vocational Education Institute of TU Dresden, where he has served since 2005. He studied physics, psychology, and sociology at FSU Jena, Swarthmore College, and Minsk University, and earned his Ph.D. in communications psychology from FSU Jena in 1999. In 2006, he completed his Facultas Docendi in learning-teaching research and multimedia learning at the University of Potsdam. He is currently Director of the CODIP – Center for Open Digital Innovation and Participation – and serves as Chairman of the Society of Media in Science (GMW). He has also been a board member of the Leibniz Research Alliance Open Science. His research focuses on educational technology, organizational development, and vocational education, among other fields.

Future Student Profile
As the process of producing education is slowly but stepwise changing in the context of the digital transformation professional roles in eduation are affected as well. In that light the students‘ activities do much rely on instant access to data based education scenarios – supported by a new typ of media together with the teaching staff. This new type of media has already become a partner, whether it is social media, immersive VR technology or AI companions. The Future Student Profile demands fine skills in self monitoring, data processing and cooperation in hybrid setings with peers, digital companions an various professionals, far beyond the regular class room or lecture hall.
